Show AFFIRMATIVE SIDE CARRIES IN DEBATE At the opening debate of the Seventeenth Seven-teenth Ward Mutual Improvement association, asso-ciation, held Tuesday night in the ward amusement hall, the adjudicators rendered ren-dered their decision in favor of the affirmative af-firmative side. The question as stated was, "Resolved, that military drill training train-ing shall be adopted In state high schools." The question was limited to mean a system of training similar in all general respects to that now in vogue In the Salt Lake high schools. The affirmative affirma-tive arguments were set forth br F. B. Matheson and Vaughn A. Cutler, while the negative side was represented by Andrew K. Smith and Stanley McAllister. Mc-Allister. K. K. Steffenson acted as chairman, while the judges were Sidney T. tt'aylor, Serge B. Campbell and Mr. Soderberg. According to Mr. Steffenson, this is but the beginning of a series of debates which will be held under the auspices of the Seventeenth Ward Mutual Improvement association in connection with the class in public, speaking which Mr. Steffenson Is personally conducting once a week. He feels much encouraged with the efforts put forth by the debaters Tuesday evening. |
