By Staff Correspondent. PAYSON, May . 2(5. When Miss Gladys Orem of Salt Lake and Mrs. George Done of Payson drove the golden spike here this morning, signifying the completion of the Salt Lake & Utah railroad, they started the little town of Payson and all Utah county on a two days' hilarious' hilari-ous' celebration. Restraint has been thrown to the Tvinds and the keys have been turned over to Uie 2000 visitors who am here as thd guests of the little citv. The carnival started in full blast with the driving of the spike and it will continue until the clock chimes 12 tomorrow night. The occasion for the celebration is the completion of two big projects which are figured to place Payson and Utah county on the industrial and commercial com-mercial map of Utah. One is the Salt Lake & Utah railroad ami the other is the famous Strawberry reclamation project. Today and tomorrow have been set aide by the residents of Fay sou and near-by towns to commemorate the event with a big carnival, and from all appearances it. will be the biggest aud moat successful event of the kind since the silver spike was driven at Promontory Promon-tory in 18CH. Women Start Fun. Mrs. George A. Bone, queen of the Payson carnival, and Miss Gladys Orem, daughter of President W. G. Orem of the Salt Lake & Utah intemrban, were chosen to start the carnival on its way. They started it, all right, although the official driving of the spike consisted of only a few light tans. The main thing is that the celebration was started start-ed and that everybody is happy. The special train of three cars, carrying carry-ing President Orem ;tnd other officials of the Salt Lake & Utah railroad and about 300 other guesr.s, arrived -here at 9:45. After a short programme, consisting con-sisting of the welcoming of the visitors , bv Charles White of Payson, on behalf i of the city of Payson aud responses bv Mr. Orem, representing the Salt Lake &: Utah railroad, rod .1. G. Lytelf representing repre-senting the government veehunation service, ser-vice, the spike was officially driven and the fun began. Approximately 200 automobiles from all parts of the' countv linea up for the parade around the valley, following the new canal.
