Show IPPfilTllSOF" Thomas Alston to Be Chief Deputy; Other Matters Are Discussed., By unanimous vote the Democratic county committee last night approved the tentative list of appointments submitted to tho committee by Georye H. Islauh, county recorder-elect. Mr. Islaub presented pre-sented the names or' twenty-six persons, who, lie- eald, would probably be named to rill tiie regalar positions in the recorder's re-corder's office. He did not submit the names of those whom lie will probably select for the extra work In the oflice, for which a dally wage is paid. Of the twenty-six chosen by Mr. Islaub for service In his office, twenty-one are Democrats and five are Progressives. They are about evenly divided as between be-tween Mormons and Gentiles. Mr. islaub was congratulated by members of the committee on the faJrnesH he showed in selecting his deputies and expressed tho opinion that U, h;uj recognized overv element that contributed to the election elec-tion and had made a good geographical distribution. At the same time the opinion opin-ion of the committee was that he had selected se-lected an efficient staff. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. Islaub said he did not care to make public pub-lic announcement of any of his employees save that of the chief deputv, who is to be 1 humus Alston. Mr. Alston served two years as county recorder and since that time has been in the abstract business busi-ness and has kept in close touch with the recorder's office. The appointments of Mr. Islaub were the only one discussed by the countv committee at its meeting last nisrhf. County Km veyor-elect R. K L. Collier was am the meeting, but said that ho was not in a position to submit his list, as he wished to meet personally some of tho applicants from the county outside of the 'ity with whom he had not vet had tho opportunity to confer. County Commissioner-elect C. F. Stillman, who was also present, said that he was not yet ready to announce his list of proposed appointments. appoint-ments. The meeting was adjourned to next Monday eveninir. During the afternoon all of tho- fusion county ontcers-elect, with the exception of Commissioner-elect Jesse H. Wheeler, held an informal meeting at the office of County Treasu rer-eleet Ray Naylor in the Judge building. During the meeting the officers-elect discussed tho reports of antagonism between the Democrats and Progressives and declared thev were without founda i ion. A resolution was adopted declaring that no attempt had been made by any committee to influence the choice of appointments to the various vari-ous places under the new administra-lion; administra-lion; tliat the spirit of the committees of the two organizations had been to pass only on the political complexion of the appointments and not on the competency of the applicants, leaving that to the of-cicers-eiect.
