Show THE NATIONAL ANTHEMt Baltimore will celebrate the centen nial of the national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner during tha present week at an outlay of $1 000 000 The story of the anthem is simple Francis Scott Key the author was detained on board a Brit sh warship during the long and anxious night wh le Eort McIIenry wa3 being bombarded The American flag was floating proudly over the fort when the shades of night descended and the patriotic Amer can was on watch at the dawn s early light to see if the starry banner yet waved The poem resulted from the emotion and mspira tion of the hour The sentiment was instantly adopted by the American people and The Star Spangled Banner will remain the na tional anthem until the end of tune.
