Miss Stearrs said In part Women and war seem t e only really pertine t subjects of the day At no time has the woman prob em been so prominent as it Is at the present time, as shown by magaz ne and newspaper articles and the voluminous amount of books written on the subject ranging from the mildest homilies to Kipling's sat re. The Female of the Species Is More Deadly Than the Male Tl e one great book to my mind dea ng with the woman problem is O ive Schreln ers Woman and Labor which Is really only one chapter recal ed from a work of which the manuscript was ru hiessly destroyed at Johannesburg after the author had spent thirty two years study and work on It. It Is not a book for babies or for those easily shocked but it deals with great truths tn a convincing and gripping way that causes one to read pace the floor and read again Strikes Is ote of Warning Miss Schrelner traced relationship of man and woman to the world of ork from the times of the moat primitive civilization until the pres ent, when the Introduction of ma chlnery and labor saving devices hare made physical prowess and strength secondary to mental keenness. he strikes a note of warning against the danger of female parasitism, s nee a woman s household duties are so simplified b modern improvements that she has too little employment at home. This leads up to the point of how a woman shall spend her leisure Here us where the proper sort of club life forms the solution the club which stands for right for decency for purity for the protec tlon of the home and society that strives to make the city to which It belongs a better place In which to live Modern Idealism was neer more alive than Jt Is today In America, In spits of the strife go! g on across the seas A laboring for right and justice a labor! g against social e i s a la boring for the equitable distribution of wealth is going on a great moral cru sade In this countr The challenge is now open to us as club women to Join this great crusade and to deal with the forces of wrong with de termination E II am ot be cured by absent treatment It must be done b tl e laying 0 of hands la other words we n ust be In the thick of the conflicts willing for service Sense of Duty Keen A sense of duty Is keen In e ery woman and It Is only when si e fol lows It that she Is happ Help for those w ho need It si ould be tl e slogan of evory woman s c b We are on the h eshold of a f ture of great possibilities a fut ro wl en fellowship nlt just e and cquftll will prevail I ho e a Islon nf a time when sex ilstlnctlon 111 vanish except a b olog cal one I am utterl sick and t red of all of this sex 1 scusslon a 1 of tho dls fruatlng articles hat are w rltten about it Men and women si ou d wo k together and Btand together T e ideal club Is not a woman s lub b t a club composed of men and women wo I Ing for the om on good and tho ele a tlon of human t Ve have such a club In W lscons n which Is on,e of the greatest powers for good In the ent re state of Mis cons n One of the greatpst evilB aga nst vhlc won n s ou 1 t rn the r at te t on b wn and ml lta s Tl e n st st ke kh st var a d It 0 d bp e ost J st b rlke r lna g ra od lo ers anl ocosso l hoi p g oat I eroes of leaco Instead of le oph of ar to c 11 e Wlat toxt bonk ave we In Is hoo s ap ;la Ing heroes of pea 0 ad ho v n any p ol g oroes of war?
