Show MADE IN UTAH. "Utah, I'. S. A." labels are to lie plaoecl Uhu half a million .lailars' worth of products to be shipped from this state to far-away Australia, contracts having been made with leading home manufacturers manufac-turers by a representative of the Australia Aus-tralia and Africa Trading company of Sydney. The contracts are for ten years, and provision is made for increases in the amount of goods as the demand for Utah products increases. Ve regard this as the most important development of the Utah manufacturing industry that could possibly happen. We also regard it as the forerunner of still greater things to come. Candies, chocolate, cocoa and canned &;oods find ready sale in both Australia and Africa. The first shipments of the trading company from Utah will go to Australia, but when shipping facilities improve, products of the intermountain country will go direct to Africa, and it may soon be possible to munch McDonald Mc-Donald 's chocolates or feast upon Ogrieu and Morgan City canned goods anywhere any-where along the route from Cairo to Cape Town. A few weeks ago the Sweet Candy company made a contract providing provid-ing for large shipments to Australia and New Zealand. As there are several other large candy manufacturing companies in Salt Lake and any number of cauuiug factories scattered over the state, it is reasonable to suppose that the contracts just signed are only a beginning, and that a big trade in these products will be built up iu the South Seas, Africa and the orient. The prospect is very pleasing to all those who have the best interests of the state at heart, and it is certain that a united effort will be made to supply these foreign markets with other I tah products. Butter has already been shipped from Salt Lake to Australia, so our wares are not entirely unknown in the Antipodes at the present time. For many years past the people of the United States have paid two or three prices for articles of food because thry were marked imported,'' and all the time they could have found much better things to rat in the home market Now that the whole world is turning to this countrv for food supplies, perhaps the brand "imported" will not be so patent, and clean and wholesome home products be more generally used. ertainly anything any-thing that can be produced in Utah is bound to be superior to similar foreign products. The contracts made with the Australia and Africa Trading company indicate that the foreign trade nf the United States will continue after the Kuropean ;ar is over, with the exception of munitions muni-tions anrl suppli'-s for the great armies. Instead of diminishing, trade in all other products is found to increase, and we are m're tli;tn happy that Utah is to reap a substantial benefit. The lahe, "Utah, U. S. A.," will not only he pleasing to Ihe eye, but is also certain to can.-'1 a bulging of the chest, as oue contemplates Ihe future possibilities. Other portion- oi" ttv country are reaping reap-ing a rich h:irr-t ,ie-t now. From the port of -Sew York alone $),imi,i)ui) worth of American product were sent abroad last week, which is said to lie a world's record. A still greater volume of exports is expected to go forward in the next few weeks, and theie is no tcliin v.luit the figures will amount to by the lirst of the year. Perhaps Ihe only correct inen.vin. will be the ability ; of lie foreign nuti'uis to find money j with which to pry for American products, prod-ucts, and it mac he added thai mosl of them are peeking to float loam in Xow York just, at this moment.
