Show THOMAS SUSPECTED. Grandpre Still Believes Poison Victim Was His Own Destroyer. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN'. April 12. Although some Inquiries In-quiries have been made regarding A. J. Thomas, victim of tho poison mystcrv at . eh,?,tcl, conducted by E. A. Grandpre in Wlllard, nothing has developed to destroy de-stroy tho suspicion of the proprietor that Ihomas himself placed arsenic or some other poison in a sugar bowl on the dining din-ing room table. During a visit to Ogden yesterday, Grandpre said that all of the othor persons who had been made sick by the poison had fullv recovered. Tho hotel proprietor bases his suspicion of Thomas on the fact that the man was despondent prldr to his death, that he owed a large board hill and apparently had no money with which to pay, and also that there has been nothing to show that he was really a prosperous cattleman, cattle-man, as he contended during his stav in Wlllard. Thomas had represented, according ac-cording to Grandpre. that he had monuv on deposit In the Walker Brothers bank at Salt Lake and also at the Utah National Na-tional bank In this city. Among his effects ef-fects was found a check book on thc latter bank. In tho pockets of thc poison victim's clothes was found Just 1 cent in money. Because of the fact that tho Salt Lake chomlsts who aro making examinations of the sugar and other food which may have contained poison desire ten days in which to complete their Investigation, Justice of the Peace Ephralm White of Wlllard has postponed the examination of witnesses wit-nesses summoned to nppear at the Inquest In-quest regarding tho death of Thomas. Tho ex officio coroner has not set a def-Inlto def-Inlto time for tho hearing, but will complete com-plete tho Inquest as soon as the chemists chem-ists liave reported. |
