Show ism m mm la the first place if we produce our own sugar we buy from oar own peo pla and not from aliens which is dis 1 a benefit since it does what is commonly called money in the country moaning not a retention of so huoh money or curren ey but tha increase of domestic traffic and exchange secondly the manufacture of bo much sugar must furnish employ ment to thousands of our own people directly and to hundred of thousands indirectly and this opens a vista which it would require a volume to discuss the pro posit ion must be so plain as to need no discussion thirdly the transportation anadis trib ution of all this enormous product would necessarily bo a great industry in itself As it baa been heretofore we have paid for bringing sugar to this country but we have paid strangers for it with the product a domestic one it rould be moved by ourselves and our own steamboats and railways and canals would gat the benefit of it san francisco chronicle |
