Show MINING STOCKS ARE , THE MARKET LEADERS James A. Pollock & Co., Investment brokers. 169 South Main street, furnish the following, received over their private wire yesterday afternoon: Paine, Webber & Co., Boston Coppers continued strong and active today, with a gradual broadening tendency. Granby was again the most active stock and Range was stronger, selling at 401, with very little stock offered. Calumet & Arizona was also strong and closed at the top. Alaska was bought from New York In anticipation of. listing the stock there. The New York list was strong and looks as if the short interest had become unwleldly and would be run In toward the ond of the week. North Butte. Old Dominion, Granby, Calumet &. Arizona, East Butte, Miami and Ray should sell much higher. Logan & Bryan New York The market mar-ket was alternately strong and reactionary reaction-ary until after tho publication of the government gov-ernment report, which was followed bv a professional covering movement so that early losses were wiped out. and the active issues ctoscd a shade higher than last night. Conflicting Mexican news and mixed Washington reports relative to the progress prog-ress of tho tariff and currency measures were without Influence, and seemingly some highly influential occurrences will be necessary to force tho list out of the rut In which It has been reposing for some time. The Steel tonnage report will be published pub-lished tomorrow and It Is expected to reveal a decrease In unfilled orders of about 250,000 tons, though Judging by the features of tho ractors of like Importance Impor-tance to stimulate trading in the market mar-ket It Is not now anticipated that the same will have a material effect. The persistent strength of the market has served to hold In check aggressive selling operations, although there are some strong indications of the market showing a disposition to get Into new ground on the up side. We are inclined to think that advantage should be taken of the upturns to make sales. Gallagher, New York Market here today to-day fairly strong and active. Alaska Gold sold from 1S2 to 192, advancing on favorable reports from the property. Oils very strong, Atlantic refining leading with a gain of 10 points and Prairie second with a gain of 7 points. Coppers and Industrials quiet and steady. Tobaccos To-baccos firm, with very little trading.
