| Show mm OF COMMERCE the chamber of commerce is again tho front energetic officers have been elected and the city has apparently awakened to the necessity of such an organization we hope the fotiu aam manifested at tho first meeting may characterize all its meetings the coming year as 1891 will see more the necessity of a libb chamber of commerce in provo than any year in the history of the city the efforts of our business men must be concen grated for the welfare of our growing municipality and in no way can they better be united than by means of the chamber of commerce the work lying before this tion is truly great and each member should feel it his duty to push with all his individual strength he should attend the meetings and present such plans as in his opinion will prove a benefit to the community the history of the chamber of commerce in the past has not been flattering after e first few meetings the interest has heretofore died out this will not prove tho case this year we opine because live questions will be laid be fore the chamber at each meeting questions in which men feel an indi sidnal interest and each member will work for the same with a vim realizing that the benefit will not be to the community solely but also to him individually As was seen by the number of suggestions gest ions offered at the first meeting are many questions that crave im mediate attention we should have equal to the needs of the city better railroad service must be secured connection with gintic tintic must be had a bettor mail service is demanded a bureau of information is badly needed the sugar beet culture should receive attention shipping traffic on the lake would prove profitable the planting of trees is a feces sity the protection of our native forests should ba considered jeche reclamation of desert land is all important manufactories manu factories should ba encouraged schools for learning trades should be promoted and BO on wo might mention hundreds of important topics that could be discussed with profit at the meetings of the chamber of commerce the ENQUIRER urges the members to take a live interest in this institution as wo are persuaded that much good will result from the same dont stop with the first meeting ahe first month or the first year the chamber of commerce alive |
