Show GIVE ATTENTION democrats of atah county TEE BALLSET BALL SET it has been decided to organize a club an impromptu meeting to the democrats of provo and utah county utah territory at an impromptu meeting heldon this day of january in the chamber of commerce it was decided that a permanent organization of alie damoc batic baity shall be effected and the following principles adopted until the permanent organization be established to draw up platforms rules and regulations OF PRIN we the undersigner undersigned under signed citizens and electors in utah territory believing thit the beet interests of all demand that the poli lica of this territory be run on party lines in conformity with national politics and as democrats we pledge ourselves to the following principles 1 we believe in local self government in local affairs 2 we believe in tariff reform 3 we are opposed to the lodge force bill 4 we are opposed to the disfranchisement of any qualified elector except for crince of which the accused shall be convicted 5 we believe in competency and honesty as the only qualifications for office 6 we believe in an official ballot Kier M M D P felt ed M olson win probert john J R F W C hathenbruck W N dusenberry Dusen H H good george havercamp josiah beck W K aver D S kling A D gash J M hanson georda and james HW ailis abo following resolutions were then read and approved WHEREAS the question of organizing a democratic club or party in this section have been discussed in private cir clea and many who are temporary tamp members of the so called peoples and liberal parties as well as many who do not belong to either have expressed a desire to join said organization therefore be it resolved that a meeting b held at the court house on the day of february 1891 at pm for the purpose of discussing pali tica from a democratic standpoint and if desired on the part of the democrats of this section it will start the democratic ball rolli cg which when properly pro parly barted tar ted will never stop until this shall cease to be a part of their grand country known oas the land of the free and the home of the brave resolved that the principles of democracy are the only true political principles on which the superstructure of a republican form of government rests other political parties may rise and flourish for a time and seem to almost crubb these principles out of existence but as long as the people of this country believe in the principles of local self government and believe in a government of for and by the people just that long will all opposition in the form of political parties continue to be a thine of the past history only repeats itself hence it is only a question of a few years time when the present great sectional party that opposes the national democratic party of today to day will shuffle off its mortal coil and be a thing of the past but the principles of democracy will be flourishing in immortal youth just the same because these principles are right therefore be it resolved that we say to everyone who believes in the principles of democracy come and hear them discussed come and discuss them yourselves come and join that areat political organization which has the true interests of this country in grafted in ilg platforms and principles motion was by AD gash aad seconded by W dusenburry Dusenb crry the foregoing resolutions mentioned the birthday of george washington as the date of the meeting but ao this cures oc on Sunday your temporary president and secretary placed the date of the meeting on the next day monday the hoping this will meat the approval ot all we are respectfully M M KELLOGG temporary chairman D P FELT temporary secretary |
