Show i LUGE mm MM aft the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE the election of officers postponed for one week finance reports pursuant to the call as published in the ENQUIRES the chamber of commerce met on thursday evening at the district court room president geo sutherland in tha chair there was a large attendance of the bubines men of the city present the clair announced that the principal bu Biness of the meeting was the election of officers for alie ensuing year and for the hearing ot tho treasurers treasur ers and secre reports of receipts and disbursements bur during abe past year the treasurers treasur ers report was read as follows to the chairman froio chamber of commerce the treasurers treasur ers report shows receipts for ahe period from december to january us follows RECEIPTS february dues 20 00 march 19 1000 19 entrance fee april 29 dues advertisement 2500 balance dance 4 95 dec 1 1890 dues 1 entrance fees 2600 deposited at first nat bank 1 would further respectfully represent that there remains in said bank an over draft of 1760 against said chamber G LJONES dated at provo city this ath day of january 1891 abe report was accepted the report was read as follows president and members chamber of commerce of provo city utah I 1 herewith present my statement of tho chamber of commerce as secretary thereof for the year ending december 1890 amount received from assessments and membership fees amount due from members for dues balance du geo sutherland for amount paid for plats of prove city due secretary for postage due first national bank for oyer draft 1750 total indebtedness in addition a small printing bill is duo respectfully B JB secy the report was accepted on motion ef mr king the meeting proceeded to the election of officers mr noon nominated william probert as president of the chamber that gentleman positively declined mr william W N dusenberry mr coray nominated william H king as president mr havercamp nominated R H dodd the voting for the three candidates was as follows dusenberry 4 king 3 dodd 4 mr king made one of his eloquent speeches in lavor of judge dusenberry urging that gent lemans experience ability etc mr noon supported the nomination of R H dodd he was a newcomer new comer among us but he had already p oven himself to be a man of enterprise it is money we want mr dodd fully appreciated the honor of the nomination but he felt that fae was not the right man for the position and ho would the air brown spoke in favor cf his nomination he did not dinow that mr dusenberry would pay all the debts of the chamber but ho was satisfied that he was liberal enough to do so if it were necessary mr suggested that a number of gentlemen were present who would perhaps like to join the chamber and calp elect the officers on motion of mr king the meeting wa thrown open to the reception of new members on motion of mr noon the rules were suspended and the follow nig members were admitted 1 U houtz john devey E B jones oscar young R A barnev mr howe mr taft M M kellog john grier W babcock E A wedgwood We dewood D 0 waid A F boston J C moses J D gash D T dark beck joseph kiley geo taylor GW shores ben B eldredge J W N joa selleck feno wakeman C S thomson mr elmer B jones suggested that as so many new members had been admitted this evening many of whom were not present alie election of officers be continued until como future date rhan alie meeting could be expensively advertised the idea met with favor among the members and on motion of mr A A noon the election f officers was continued until alie next meeting and that when the meeting adjourned it was to be until next thursday p in mr J bjones moved eliat ike finance committee be instructed hy alie secretary to report at atie next meeting as to what members had paid up their initiation fees and dues carried on motion of mr W H the committee or membership eruct ad to notify the new members who were not present of their election to membership ber ship mr J D jones moved that alie matter of the collection of delinquent dues be referred to on finance with authority to act carried mr probert debirt d to call the attention of the chamber to one tiling that he thought should receive special attention the town could not unless we have KB wo want money and the nearest place to abet it y clintic Lin tic there is an irn mine over there that we want to bring over here and demelt we wane to bend men oyer up to this scheme these people there would just as soon work us as salt lake mr oacar young expressed himself in nR in relation to the chamber we duft conr muscle into olay and work our town needs rousing up A number of inquiries in relation to provo and her resources were read by the secretary an adjournment was taken until thursday week and the new members present came forward wath their initiation fees |
