Show M'ALLISTER MIES EMPHATIC DENIAL Lawyer Arrested in Connection Connec-tion With Portland Scandal Puis in Appearance. PORTLAND. Or., Nov. 23. E, S. J. McAllister, the attorney who was arrested ar-rested in Medford, Or., Thursday in connection -rrith the Portland vico clique scandal, put in an appoaranoe late today. McAllister bad failed to put himself iu touch with the authorities authori-ties upon arriving yesterday, and this gave ri6o to an announcement by tho police that, ho had not arrived in Portland Port-land at all. McAllister said he kept the news of his arrival from tho public in order to permit an uninterrupted consultation with counsel. In a signed statement McAllister, in addition to denying the charge against him, declared that, any statement or intimation that he was about to leave the state was "utterly false." Herman Smith, who is wanted in connection con-nection with the scandal, was arrested yesterday in Vancouver, B. C. Fred Clarke, another fugitive, is in Cauada. 1L L. Tabb, a-railway clork, was traced to Aberdeen. Wash., and thoro the track was lost. Roy Kadcl a mail carrier, and Bruce Stone, a department store employee, aro being sought. Warrants are out for all of those men. State Circuit Judge W. K. Gatens of tho juvenile court, stated tdday that ho had in his possession a number of lot tors which ho would turn over lo the postal authorities. |
