the 0 P convention the republicans met in county convention morning at tho opera house mayor booth called the meeting to order read tha call and dr F 11 imons as temporary chairman the nomination was sustained the doctor took the chair and made a neat speech of acceptance mr george webb was elected temporary secretary while some of the southern delegates dele eates were being hunted up mayor booth was called for he opened his remarks by stating that some men got less than they bargained for and others got more on this occasion he bot more grover cleveland was referred to in seme respects he liked grover when he was elected president he went in on the cry of turn the rascals out he said all right ho would do that but when he got in he found no rascals to turn out the republicans who were in office were so much batter than those democrats who wanted office that for the bood of the country ha kept the republicans in in this territory the democrats cot the start but now when sober reasoning and thinking plays a he republicans are coming ahead in a abort race of fifty yards it bakeh a good aleal of difference who gets the start hut alien you run a long race the man who gets the start frequently comes out ahead 1 dont blame abee abo ale for democrats if I 1 v ere like some of them I 1 would also be a democrat you take these fellows who never paid any taxes because they never credentials lind the following named delegates are entitled to seats and are commend that in case of absence of adv delegates the alternates or persona holding proxies be entitled to act as delegates respectfully submitted damoisy IBA D WINES geo 0 SI jr jamke colfman reports adopted the committee on resolutions recommended the adoption of ane platform as by the republican county ant on of july ath and aa published int the the platform was readi heartily applauded and adopted james guidman placed in nomination W D robinson of american fork as from the north end oi the county george webb placed in nomination Ellingsen Ola sen of lehi mr chipman spoke strongly in favor of mr robinson he was an inveterate worker and a firm republican mr webb admitted that W D robinson was a good man but he thought lehi was entitled to the selectman from the northern end of the county it wa some twenty years since lehi had had a selectman with the exception of mr fowler for a short time mr hayes of the pleasant grove delegation strongly favored mr robinson lie wa well known popular and his character was unimpeachable mr baah of the alpine delegation favored mr robinson mr wines thought lehi was entitled to the selectman there were a preat many roads in lehi to be attended to mr graham was ft personal friend of mr robinson but he could not sustain him for the position as ho understood american fork would make a vigorous ficht for a representative from the sev anth district mr chipman knew of no fight for representative from american folk ehg voting was viva voce the chair being unable to decide division of the bouye was ordered resulting in a vote of 19 for mr robinson and 30 for mr allingston the nomination of mr Ellin saon was made unanimous mr hicks nominated joseph E wilkins of spanish asfor as selectman for the southern part of the county mr whitney nominated J F brins hurst of alie voting resulted in 41 for mr alkina and 8 for mr bringhurst Brine hurst the nomination of mr wilting was made unanimous mr graham placed in nomination benjamin cluff jr as superintendent in of schools mr graham made a strong speech in favor of his nomination the nomination was made by acclamation mr grier placed in nomination H S pyne aa coroner for the term sir demoisey DeMoi aey before avotins for mr pyne I 1 would like to know it ho is competent to held an inquest over the remains ot the democratic party after the august election the chair mr pyne is a and I 1 think he would have plenty of disinfectants disinfect ants at hand the nomination was made by acclamation on motion of mr graham it was decided to continue the present county central committee in office during the coming year an adjournment was taken three cheers and a pieer for the success of the republican party benediction by the chaplain at 2 don C johnson called the representative convention to order mr johnson waa elected temporary chairman and H S pyne temporary secretary committees richard lorn W S holdaway and richard L mendenhall while the committees were out dr F H simmons talked republicanism when he was called for he said he was tired out but nevertheless he could could we baut dr pike but ii we want a man to make laws for us we want george sutherland the nomination of mr sutherland was made by acclamation on motion of mr graham tho con bention proceeded facto the 01 thanks was extended to thy of the convention on motion of mr holbrook the council convention will meet at one p m on thursday mr greer made an earnest speech in bayor of the candidate nominated which was received with enthusiasm convention adjourned liberal convention the liberals met at the court house at 11 lh this morning in county conven tion J E hill called the convention to order mr boert was nominated temporary chairman but he want any of in his thos E dallin accepted the office R S aines was run in as temporary secretary the secretary read the call from the committees were appointed as follows on credentials emery hills james mcbeth and milan packard on resolutions newel knight A K thornton and richard brereton permanent organization and order ot business C N bedfield Ked field mr ebert and davis clerk mr brooks of lake shore stated there were only four of them left and he was the only one here he came inside the railing and joined ins br ethern mr hill saw the meag reness of delegates present and moved that the com cittee on credentials oe dispensed ciui he explained that so many were present without credential sand the should be allowed to have a voice in nominal ing tha officers for whom they were expected to vote the speech was applauded by the chair and the motion was carried all committees were instructed tore port ai one the meeting adjourned until one the proceedings were conducted in a lame halting manner nobody seemed to know blat to do nor how to do it evidently all of the bright minds and af the liberal mariy have left the ranks |
