on permanent organization and order of business reported as follows to the chairman and members of the democratic convention GENTLEMEN your committee on permanent organization and order of business respectfully recommend the following order of business 1 report of committee on credentials 2 election of of ficera 3 report of committee on resolutions 4 county organization and misaela keoua ous duesenberry secretary H A anderson at armade sargent chaplain J 0 bullock E A WILSON chairman report adopted mr kellogg took tha chair amid great applause he thanked the convention for the honor conferred it was a great pleasure to him to preside at a democratic meeting he reviewed his personal political experiences since the dark daya of 1860 to the present time he was pleased that the old local political issues had been done away with in the teni tory he advocated the serious consideration of the questions that might come up for alie best interests in teresta of all what was good for democrats in utah territory was also good ajr republicans he advocated the strict observance of the constitution etc mr kellogg was frequently applauded the committee on resolutions presented the resolutions as adopted by the territorial central democratic Clu band provisions provit ions for a temporary organization of the democratic party in utah county as follows PROVO CITY utah june to the county convention of the democratic forty of utah county anti your committee on resolutions and platform respectfully submit tha following i resolved that the precinct and municipal ward democratic organizations effected in this county be and the same are hereby approved and recognized as the only democratic organizations in said precincts and wards resolved that said organization be continued and thereof recognized until the territorial central committee or the county central committee promulgate some plan haying for its object the changing of the same that this recognizes tho territorial democratic committee and looks to it us the director in all questions coming legitimately within its sphere Ite solved abat it ia the sense ot this convention that a county central committee should at once be elected and a permanent county organization be ef fectea and that said central committee be elected by thief convention and con dist af the following one member from rach club or precinct organization and also from each precinct in ahia there is no democratic organization that the members so abail at the close of this convention meet and select a chair man secretary and treasurer and an executive committee of five persons to bd chosen from the county central corn said central committee shall have full power to carry on campaigns levy the necessary assessments epou the various clubs and precincts and to do all things necessary for the welfare of the democratic party in utah county resolved that the following platform heretofore adopted by the democrats of salt lake county be adopted as the platform of the democratic party of utah county 1 we believe that the government of the united states is a national sov erigney erig nty supreme within its sphere as delegated and defined in the constitution and to that government our first allegiance is due and we believe in a willing and loyal obedience to all its laws and a strict enforcement of the same 2 we believe that the several states of the union are sovereign within their sphere and that upon the preservation of their autonomy depend the benefits of local belt government the liberty ui the citizens and the perpetuity of the union 3 ve arc opposed to the idea of a of a centralized or paternal government believing beli eying that the beet government ia the one that governs least and fore we believe in the largest liberty of the individual citizen consistent with good government 4 we are opposed to any legislation by the federal government which looks to or operates in levying taxes for the benefit of any one class at the expense of any other but we believe that the primal idea of all taxes should be reye i buc and that confined to the needs of economically adminis tired 1 0 o we aie opposed to any legislation tending to build up monopoly aa the result is to make rich the few to liu t the many and we believe that the rule of government should be the greatest bod to the greatest number special begea to none equality to all 6 we are unalterably opposed to the disfranchisement of any citizen except fo crime whereof he shall hive h ive been first duly convicted 7 we are unalterably opposed to lorce and fraud in the conduct ul dec 1 eions or to any nn them i by extraneous powers or meadia the j constitution of the united stales not be re vitiated by makeshift legisla tion to fad hate party
