Show FARMERS tho farmers of cache valley are organizing farmers clubs something of that nature in utah valley would prove a profit the farmers all realize the advantage of talking about topics pertaining to the profession with a brother farmer and in no way could it be done in a more satisfactory way than in a club room true it will take no subject can be treated properly without study and then farmers have plenty of time during the winter months in the summer they could make experiments under the direction of the club on the best mode of tilling the ground fot any particular crop say that twenty five farmers devoted a few square rods to a certain experiment one trying sugar beets another flax another lacorn another wheat etc under con kitiona decided upon by the club what an immense amount of knowl edge could be derived in that way and at but small expense why one farmer could not make these esperi ments in a life time that could be made in two or three years by the club neither could he gain so good a knowledge in studying alone in the winter these experiments could be discussed and plans laid out for the coming summer i farming is not the profession it use to be now we have many college bred men who are gaining a livelihood by this means they have an active mind and their natural inquisitiveness would find a large field for study if the farmers would organize and through this means the profession would be greatly elevated fathers would have an easy time to keep their sons on the old homestead because their work would become attractive furthermore such clubs would give the farmers influence with railways and with the lawmaking law making department of the state whereby they could command better prices on their produce As proof of this we need but referred you to the influence wielded in national politics by the farmers alliances of the baat |
