Show UTAH SCIEITISTS 1LDJKNT1 The first meeting of the fifth annual convention of the Tltah Academy of Sciences Sci-ences 1ms held last night, in the sjlnncc building of the high school. The speakers speak-ers were Dr. R. T. Byrnes and Dr. C. T. Vorhles. Dr. Byrnes reud a paper on the "Present Status of Salvarsan." The paper dealt with the use of salvarsan and of the diseases it was used for. It told of Ihe great work in discovering salvarsan sal-varsan and the danger In using II, nnd thai. It should not be used by people who do not understand it. Dr. Vorhies read h. paper on "Animal Behavior and Its Significance." Sig-nificance." He told of the Instincts of animals and their habits. Twenty new members were elected to the society and some amendments to the by-laws were read. Th by-laws will be acted upon at Mil? afternoon's meeting. There will be three more meetings of the society, one nt 0:,10 o'clock this morning, one at 2 o'clock and one at S o'clock tonight. to-night. A slight change has been made In the programme. "The. Effects of Soli I Moisture on the Morphology of Certain Plants," by Di- Frank, S. Harris, now on the morning programme, will be read in the afternoon, and "The Effect of Age on the Hatching Quality of Eggs," on the afternoon programme, will bo read In the morning. The election of officers for the coming year will be held at the afternoon meeting. |
