Show ATA GIMP WILL GEHMIES Engineers Making Surveys for New Electric Tramline, Say the Reports. BUSINESS IS AVAILABLE Some Interesting Plans Being Rounded Out for Famous Mountain Camp. Mining men or the Little Cottonwood canyon havo been very much Interested for somo time in tho significance of a surveying party whoso activity has been and still is coutlned to ascertaining tho feasibility of providing transportation facilities fa-cilities for the mines- of that section. Tho party of surveyors Is distinct from the engineers who have been making the preliminary investigations for the Michigan-Utah Consolidated company's I ram way, and there is a conviction that something big Is browing which will result to the tremendous advantage of property owners in tlio Wasatch range, Many years ago, it will be recalled, there was a mule tramline from Wasatch to Tanner's Flat three miles in length. The virtual abandonment of Alta for so many years compelled the ruin of this tram, but much of tho grade still stands as a striking evidence of the prosperity that once was, and of the future Improvement which may be and should -be in view of the rejuvenation 0: the Alta district. May Use Old Roadbed. The engineers whos operations have attracted so much attention are giving much attention to this old tramline, and It is considered positive by a great many that capital Is planning a new tramline tram-line to be run by electricity between Wasatch and Tanners, which would cover ono of the worst sections of the Little Cottonwood roads. It Is this section under un-der existing conditions that prevents ore shipments at the rate which otherwise would be the case. From Tanners to Alta it is another three miles, and it. is not a very difficult matter to provide proper tramway arrangements to bring tho Alta ores down to tho projected head of tho electric line. Such a plan would involve the extension exten-sion of- the standard gauge railroad line from its prosent point, three miles east of Sandy, to Wasatch, where the ores could bo dumped from tho electric line cars into tho railroad cars for transportation trans-portation to tho nearby smelters. The Little Cottonwood in addition to lead, silver, copper and gold ores, holds an enormous quantity of building stono which should be utilized more than It has been In the past, and which will bo with these transportation facilities provided. Wasatch itself la a well known summer resort and would bo one of tho most visited spots in Utah were it easier to get people to and from the resort. Looks Like Business. There have been numerous reports from year to yoar that the Little and Big Cottonwood Cot-tonwood canyons were to bo given better bet-ter transportation facilities, but the physical phys-ical condition of the various mints of these sections has never been so satisfactory satis-factory In recent years as at present, and It is not surprising that capital is willing to proceed now that the business, busi-ness, both freight and passenger. Is assured. as-sured. There la a wonderful amount of hydro-electric power up these canyons too that, has been only partially taken advantage of, and electricity has been the charm to draw more than one engineer en-gineer representing powerful interests up the canyons this spring, despite the deep snows. It seems certain that somo interesting interest-ing developments can be looked for at almost any hour up that section of richly rich-ly provided Utah, and Alta seems destined des-tined to bo ono of the busiest spots in the Btate during tho next few months. |
