Several Interesting Items about the mlno and tonnage ton-nage are contalnod In the Cordova Dally Alaskan of April 1, which was tho special spe-cial railroad edition of this paper. Tho following Is an extract: Tho direct reason for the construction of tho Copper River fc Northwestern railway was to roach tho mining property prop-erty of tho Konnecott. This property now conslstH of thirty-two lode claims and eighteen placer claims, embracing a total acro-ago acro-ago of 3210 acres. Practically tho only devclopmont was on tho Bonanza group, which ha $6,000,000 of rich coppor ore In sight. But It was apparent from the start that the syndicate would not bo Justified In building a standardized modern mod-ern railway to carry tho tonnago of their own property. They realized the prospective pros-pective devclopmont of mnny greater producers on claims close to tho railroad rail-road and so decided to build a substantial substan-tial and permanent road. In tho belief that dovolopmont would give amplo tonnage. ton-nage. Tho Bonanza mlno is located upon a high ridge between Konnecott glaclor and McCarthy creek. It Is six miles above tho foot of the glaclor and three miles from tho town of Konnecott, where tho concentrator and oro bins are located. locat-ed. Tho mlno Is 1500 feet above the Umber Um-ber line, at an elevation of about 4500 feet, with a good trail loading to It. Tho oro is practically pure chalcoclto or copper cop-per glanco, nnd Is stained upon the surface sur-face by copper carbonates. Comparatively Comparative-ly llttlo work has as yet been done In tho development of tho mine. There aro about 1000 foot of tunneling and 150 foot of raise. Possibly 2000 tons of ore havo been taken out. most of which will run 6o per cent and somo hlghor, in copper. |
