Gibson, in company with others at .the Unlversltv of Utah, kept a. night vigil, in the hope of catching a glimpse of thn comet, nnd were rewarded reward-ed by getting n. good view of the comet at. tho lime, mentioned. Prof. Gibson sn hi : "The comet had Just arisen above tho mountain at. 4: 13 o'clock. It. appeared to bn a star of the third magnitude, but by means of averted vision one could see tho tail. 'When Iho comet was first sighted, the telescope was at. once pointed In Its direction, and through tho Instrument Instru-ment a great deal of nebulosity could be seen around the head. The tall appeared to ho from one-quarter tn one-half degree In length. Wo wero ablo to follow tho comet for half nn hour, until daylight came on tho horizon, when It faded from view. "The comet rises about 2 degrees south from that in which tho sun rises. It Is now near tho Omega Prifcluni. a star, and of course, a number num-ber of degrees south of tho otar known ns Pgnsl Gamma. It l about the same brightness ns Pgasl Gamma, and arises a few minute: after that star." |
