few moments befera 5 yesterday afternoon clouds which had been threatening a storm began to collect over the region 0 lake Mc Lamn two or oliree miles north of this city t oon taking on S rotary motion anil alie terrible appearance of a cyclone hundreds u citizens watched the clouds as they swept together and followed their course to the northwest in which direction direct jon many friends had gone to spend the day at gome of tho many bittle lakes scattered over the country the cyclone developed from a terrific storm of wind to rain and hail which set in at and raged with unabated fury until nearly 5 at the latter hour the clouds in the southwest suddenly assumed a funnel like shape the edae being fringed with a a lace work of fleecy white when the eddying gained its full niome wind suddenly veered from the east to the south almost in a twinkling the great mass spread out like a fan and sweeping across lake gervaise Ger vaiso leveled everything in its path the scene absolutely beggars description crip tion the number of dead is not absolutely known and is no means of ascertaining who the wounded are there must be from twenty anve to forty wounded bome of them seriously but most of them slightly they have been taken to residences in various parts of the city and no one has any idea as to who they are there are no zeil systems of relief and consequently everybody is at to the real extent of the causally cau salty it is believed however that six will cover the number of killed but there are several wounded who are likely to die A young man drove from lake coleman soon hospitals and the dead were all collected in the hotel of john coleman A majority of alie buildings were light frame structures which were so completely blown to pieces that there really were no wrecks under which the occupants could he buried the dead bodies were found many rods from the houses they had owned when living help was asked for from white bear but it was impossible to send any
