Show GREEK SUSPECT SEEKSJISJiRTf Peter Maris Asks for Freedom Through Writ of Habeas Corpus. Peter Maris, tlio Greek arrested by tlio police department last Sunday niht on descriptions furnished by New York officials on suspicion of being the man who, on July 13, robbed Gcorco Mel-ans, Mel-ans, nnother Grcek; of $SS in casli aud $3595 in securities in a room an tho Waldorf-Astoria hotel, made application to the Third district court Tuesday for a writ of habeas corpus. The application applica-tion is directed at Chief of Police Samuel Sam-uel M. Barlow. Maris says that he is ' restrained of his liberty without legal process. Judge Morso will hear argument argu-ment on tho application at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon. To hold Maris, the county attorney Tuesday issued a complaint, charging him with being a fugitive from justice. This complaint is based on telegrams from tho New York authorities. Maris was arrested in Greoklown Sunday night by Patrolmen Iladkc and Grifliths, lie strenuously denied that lie hud been in trouble at any time and that he had anything to do with the robbcr3r. Tho polieo officials, however, claim to have conclusive cvidnnco that Maris is the man that committed tho robbery at the hotel. |
