opted the report of the committee on streets ind alleys in referd ace to the petition if mr wm H brown and nine ethers araking for the making of a map of brovo city was read by mr scott the ommittee reported favorable on the petition mr scott stated that a map wa very necessary lec essary and could be had for from floo to 1000 as the council might beem advisable mr maiben did not wish to see any jobs perpetrated on the city as he thought was the object of some persons in the present case mr bean thought a map would be a good thing but he waa of the opinion there were certain parties who were trying in this case their hand on some little dodge he was aware of one gentleman especially who had stated that if he held the proper position he would break every deed in the city he would not recommend the employment of this man under any circumstances mr alexander 1 I believe the gentleman is out of order mr bean perhaps I 1 am but if so I 1 am willing to be called to order by the chair but what I 1 have baid I 1 can borove arscott Mr Scott stated that the city surveyor the road supervisor and all the city officers nee deda map the map however ought to be made correct the committee had made no recommendations recommendation as to whether the work should be performed by the city surveyor or any other party air alexander stated the city surveying had been done in a slipshod manner there was cot a street in the town that the blocks ran parallel with let ua get a map and let it be correct something that we can rely on we can get a proper survey made by going at it in a proper manner mr bean was prone to admit that there might possibly have been errors in the surveying heretofore made as he had found out that no two surveyors could get the lines the same the gentleman admitted that some of the ets vere a little crooked but he did not think the council had a right to straighten them hie mayor read sections 53 and 54 of the revised ordinances of provo city and calling alderman alexander to the chair took the floor and said he did not thick the city was ready for a map our blocks are not all the same size nor are all our streets straight of course it ia not necessary they should be entirely straightened but the corners should at some time be located we have an adjustment of the plat of the city the city ordinance states that streets are eight and five rods wide but does not designate the size of the blocks it occurs to me if anything is to be done we had better go right to wark and find out how we want our blocks and streets then we can prepare our map mr dixon thought the best plan would be to have a sarvey before a map was drawn mr scott coincided with this idea after some incidental discussion on motion of mr dixon further action on tho report was postponed the mayor called abo attention of the members to the council in regard to having it painted and repaired on motion of mr scott it was referred committee on public grounds and city property with power to act tho application of K S hines for a renewal of hia license as retail liquor dealer was presented and granted application was presented by smoot richards co for a license as wholesale liquor dealers the necessary bonds having been filed the application was granted the council then adjourned until the first in december |
