Show SIDEWALKS while the business men are considering paving THE CITIZENS SHOULD GRAVEL kneir sidewalks bridge their Dit cite and plant trees on the ditch banks in provo cita do we want the side walks of our principle lutiness streets paved why yes of course we do As to which sidewalks should he paved to what extent they should be paved and how they should he paved and which sidewalks should not be paved and whether aliey should be paved this fall or next spring are all questions of secondary consideration and should be decided by the property owners along the various blocks but while the business men of the city are considering the matter and wondering where the money is goins to come from with which to pave while the city council arc racking their brains aa to biow the thing should be done and while the paving commission is making assessments etc why should not the average citizen begin to look about liis own individual place and begin to wonder whether a lew loads of nice mountain gravel scattered here and there a bridge placed across thia ditch and that ditch and trees placed along the ditch banks would not first greatly add to hia own convenience and the general neatness of appearance of his place second please his neighbor who has to pass that ivay morning and evening and third help to build up our town and make it in verv deed what it claims to be the garden cita of utah of course the present season for many is a very busy one and perhaps they could not at present devote much time and attento these matters but then chev can begin to consider them and n fall arrives perhaps they will have arrived at the conclusion that hauling gravel on the side walks building bridges over ditches and planting shade trees on alie ditch bank are absolute necessities and should be attended to at once if strangers want to come to our city and become hona fide residents and help us to build up our lovely little city well and good but there is no reason why the average citizen wait for some one else to come and do the work for him he is abundantly able to do it himself and should not wait for others to do it There jare perhaps a few who are able to make improvements abent their but alio will not do so unless chev ara compelled to perhaps it would not be a bad idea for the city council in such cases to appoint another commission to levy a small gravel tax and ax up their sidewalks for them let us by all means have better sidewalks |
