Show THE BOYS IN BLUE they were given a most handsome reception at payson august 19 1890 with the earliest beams of alie sun this morning our lovely city was a scene of bustle an J activity there were people hurrying to and fro push and energy displayed in ayery direction national colors in demand and the supply of red white and blue bunting exhausted the oc cassion of all this excitement was the expected arrival of the detachment of soldiers from fort douglas and when at they marched through our streets they beheld the business houses and dwellings en route ablaze of colors with the national colors preponderating ponde rating there was a magnificent display of the glorious stars and stripes noticeable flags being stretched across our principal streets totally covering the buildings on both sides of the streets along the line of march our citizens turned out en masse to do honor to our count rys defenders and they were received with such enthusiasm and given such a glorious welcome as must fill them with an abiding conviction of the loyalty and patriotism of our people from all the surrounding settlements tle ments came numerous concourses of people to join with us in our welcome to our nations pride and strength and with us do honor to the boys in blue our city today to day wears her holiday attire and the air seems full of enthusiasm and patriotism A glorious belcome was given the boys on their introduction to the city by the payson silver band who occupied a platform erected for that purpose on top of john D starks store the boys will encamp just south of the city where during their stay we are to have the pleasure of witnessing their evolution consisting of dress pa rade ir ec wv ill give through the columns of your pier a full report of the proceedings their stay and now assure the bobb je well wishes of all our people not only during their sta with us but wherever their lot mav be cast |
