Show WE 1 11 CITY COUNCIL claims allowed reports received and other business the regular monthly session of the city council was hald last night mayor in the chair the absentees were aldermen dunn and brown and councillors councilors Counci lors farrer and bean A petition from bupt supt bancroft of the D R G R K co asking protection from arnit peddlers and hotel solicitors was referred to committee on judiciary A communication from W H brown asking till next session of the council in which to present his annual report was read on motion the required time was allowed the report of the city marshal for the month ending november showing ten arrests and fines collected was accepted and placed on ale the report of police justice W D alexander for the quarter ending november soth was read Alder roan holdaway moved that the report be referred raf erred to the committee on police and prisons carried the recorder was instructed to add to the published financial statement the date when it was approved by the city council A report from the committee appointed to operate with the committee from the county on heating apparatus for the bourth ouse reported the satisfactory performance of the work by D james co and recommended the payment of the cites proportion of the expense amounting to one third cost of the heating apparatus on motion of alderman holdaway the report was accepted and the amount appropriated the modified application of B S hines for renewal of license to retail liquor was read alderman holdaway thought the applicant was quibbling in describing the location of his building as he does what his object might be he would not presume to say but any school boy could describe it better than did the applicant by tha wording of the application on the northwest corner of seventh and I 1 streets the place of business is located right in the drug store whereas tha saloon is entirely on I 1 street councilor maiben thought if wo came to specific terms hot one of the applicants had described their places of business correctly the applicant of mr hines was as conformable to the requirements quire ments of the ordinance as any other application att thought the clerk should exert a little moro influence with applicants and make them describe their places of business more minutely on motion of councilor maiben the application was granted the following claims were allowed city marchaland Mar police city hirshal Mir 1550 city recorder for services for quarter ending December 60 city services city attorney four months salary street supervisor and deputies dep city justice services rendered reu dered during quarter ending ales wilkins for watering west square three months S jensen ringing curfew bell 4 the verbal petition of councilor hansen asking the remittance of the water tax of mrs bergman was referred to committee on irrigation the council adjourned till monday evening nest at 7 |
