Show priesthood MEETING the stake tabernacle to be seated for next quarterly conference the regular monthly meeting of the priesthood of utah stake was held in alie quorum room of the state tabernacle on saturday last president A 0 smoot presiding there were presen two of the stake presidency ten bishops and other representatives from thirteen wards the statistical report of the stake for jaae was read the report of the committee on apkor tiou ment for the stake Tabernacle was presented the report consisted of the committees proceedings in committee meeting held july which explained the basis and manner of recommended the amount necessary for ahe completion of alie tabernacle and the of existing debts being bishop johnson as superintendent reported alie progress of alie work on the tabernacle the floor he said is being laid he asked for advice relative the putting in of alie seats forbse at the next quarterly stake conference president smoot stated blat bishop johnson had spoken to him concerning the contract for the seats which had been let to the provo L M B co they being the lowest bidders bishop bromley moved that the report of the apportionment committee be accepted and adopted he proceeded to state bis reasons for offering the motion bishop mccullough was of the opinion eliat population should be considered as well as tithing and other ti lings in making up the apportionment councilor sabin explained the manner proposed in the salem ward for making up their apportionment and asked for further instructions president smoot said lie would again that the wards could take their own course and adopt such methods as they might deem practicable to raise alie respective amounts apportioned to them he referred with regret to the evident existence of the old prejudice on alie part of some wards against making public improvements in provo city he deplored the continuance of such a feeling and hoped it would be speedily removed the question on the apportionment was freely discussed during which the list of apportionments to the several wards was read bishop Brom leys motion was fenily put to a vote and unanimously adopted president smoot prompted the bishops to advocate in their wards alie necessity of sustaining the cause with their offerings this duty should not be neglected the people should not lose sight of the fact that zion is to be built up unless the people were mindful of the obligations resting upon them god would certainly scourge them the poor should be remembered in some of the wards the means contributed for the support of the helpless in our midst were insufficient to meet the requirements and the church was in consequence called upon to make up the deficiency fici ency from other source meeting then adjourned until the arst saturday in october benediction by president D john |
