maintenance and propagation of which we as individuals and a a club pledge ourselves first an inviolable preservation of tle federal constitution and this we understand to include alie preservation to ahe states and to the people of all the rights and powers of government not expressly or by necessary implication granted to the federal government second to foster a spirit of independence pen dence the deato should not interfere with the individual in his lawful relations and duties to the church neither should the church as such assume in any manner to control or direct the individual in his political duties to the state believing that the true spirit of our free institutions and the powers reserved to the states and to the people were wisely intended to and justly do secure to all american citizens the right of local gov emment we recognize that for the purpose of exercising atrat right and performing that duty every citizen ought to be sufficiently independent that he will at all times exer ciao his own best individual judgment in performing all of his political privileges and duties and we further declare it to be our firm belief that it is diametrically opposed to the principles of free government for any citizen to yield to any man or set of men the right to control his political action and that in doing so he does an injustice to himself to ins conn try and to civilization and while we strongly insist upon the right to enjoy the benefits of local self government we believe it to he impossible that this right can bo rell exercised or these benefits fully enjoyed by any community where the many aro controlled by the wilt of the few fifth we believe no man can be a consistent democrat and at the ame tune affiliate train or vote with any oilier political
