Show HUGHES IS HONORED GUEST IF mSITII New York Day at Seattle Observed Ob-served With Somewhat .Elaborate Ceremonies. SEATTLE. Wash., Aug. 2. Gov. Charles T3. .Hughes of New York, who is a guest of the New York state building build-ing at the Alaska -Yukon-Pacific exposition, ex-position, was the chief figure in the celebration of New York day at the world's fair today, and three other governors were present to pa honor to him John A. Johnson of Minnesota, William E. Glasscock of West Virginia and Marion E. liny of "Washington. Gov.- Hughes aud a few others imitcd by the Now York commission ate luncheon soon after noou. At 2 o'clock the official welcome of the exposition lo Gov. Hughes was delivered in the auditorium by President J. E. Chilberg and Dircctor'of Ceremonies Josiah Collins, Col-lins, and Gov. Hughes responded. From 3 to u o'clock this atlenioon Gov. Huhes held a reception in the New York building. Tonight. Hhe exposition commissioners gave a formal banquet in the New York building in honor of the distinguished visitor. Gov. Hughes will remain in Seattle lint il Wednesday night. Ho has been invited to alteiid a. number of social events 111 his honor, but has told friends that he would rather spend his time seeing lhe fair. |
