Show ROOSEVELT BOOMERS ARE STILL I PLANNING STAMPEDE OP CONVENTION CHICAGO, June 15. Tho promoters of tho Roosevelt boom movement now claim that they have secured the services serv-ices of a delegate "from a stato other than Alabama that will bo reached early in tho roll call" to present the President's Presi-dent's name lo the convention. Former Representative Thomas W. Phillipps, of Newcastle, Penn., declared tonight that Mr. Roosevelt's namo unquestionably would be sprung in tho convention, but he declined to give the delegate's namo or the Stato he represents in part. These facts, he says, will remain secret until candidates are placed in nomination. The Roosevelt boomers nre counting on a stampede of Tnft delogatcs to the President if they can get tho latter 's name before tho convention in a force- 1 ful manner. The opinion was expressed by Mr. Philhpps .tonight that tho boom which ho is engineering for Roosevelt is growing, Two members of the West Virginiu delegation who claim they will remain Joynl to their instructions for Taft declared de-clared that the Taft men aro in the minority and that tho defection would be great if a Roosevelt stampede were started. Tho hotbed of the Tnft defection is at the Lexington hotel, where tho West Virginia delegation is quartered. A meeting was held thero tonight under tho leadership of Mr. Phillips, but if was attended by only a fow delegates and a largo number who have no vote in Ihe convention. J |
