Show World Peace Depends Upon People World peace, we are told, cannot be based upon the sov ereign equality of nations but must rest upon a wrold-wide order, standing above nations and possessing the power to create law and enforce it upon individuals. We think this would be an ideal setup, provided the super-government would learn what has not been appreciated appreciat-ed in :.o United States, that the lights of individuals must not be snuffed out in an effort ef-fort to produce a uniform pat tern of conduct. At the present time, however, how-ever, we see no rospect that the nations, including the United States, are ready to abrogate their sovereignty. The trend of popular opinion, it seems, is the other way. There is danger of a national ism, with the people of each country judging every proposal pro-posal by what they get out of it. We do not know when the ideal, super-state will arrive. Some day it will come into be ing, but it will not be possible pos-sible until the majority of the people of the world grow wisely tolerant of dissidents. The peace of the world depends de-pends more upon the willingness willing-ness of people to live and let live than upon the type of governments that exist. |
