Show SALT LAKE STAKE HOLDS CONFERENCE Apostle Whitney Links the Names of Jesns Christ j and Joseph Smith. The quarterly conferenco of the Salt Lake stake of Zion was held yesterday. Tho afternoon session of tho confer-once confer-once was held in tho Tabernacle in lieu of tho regular Sunday services in that cdiCce. Nephi L. Morris, president of the stako, presided, and there wore nresent John R. Winder and Anthon H. Lund, counsellors in tho first presidency, presi-dency, and Apostles Francis M. Lvman, Orson F. "Whitney and David O" Mc-Kav. Mc-Kav. The services opened with the singing sing-ing of the hymn, "Come, Thou Glorious Glor-ious Day." Elder Davis, a member of tho high council, offered prayer. Tho choir sang tho antneni, "From Afar, Gracious Lord." Apostle McKay was tho first speaker. His text was, "Judge Not That Ye Be Not Judged," and he applied this with special rofcrenco to fault-finding on the part of the saints concerning the acts of "those over us." He quoted Bob-,bie Bob-,bie Burns to substnntiato his claim that no fault should bo found with poo- pie unless the lault-findcrs wero cognizant cogni-zant of tho motives which actuated thoso whose acts they wero inclined to criticise. Ho particularly warned tho saints against finding fault with acts, doings and judgments of God. The choir then sang tho famous Mormon Mor-mon hymn, "O. My Father," after which Apostle Whitney made a brief address. He opened by paying a tribute tri-bute to tho writers of hymns and ballads, bal-lads, to tho artists, sculptors and musicians musi-cians of tho world, declaring that, from the point of greatness, they -wero equal to tho statesmen and warriors. Apoatlo Whitney wound up with his usual doctrinal discourse, in which ho Jinked the names of Jesus Christ and .Joseph Smith, and drew a parallel between be-tween their birth, their careers and their mission on earth. At the conclusion of Apostlo Whitney Whit-ney s spcoch, choir and congregation sang " Vc Thank Thoe, O God,8 for I prophet." Elder Hamilton G. Park pronounced tho benediction. |
