Show PLAYED BEST MATCH IN TEH HIS TOURNEY Salisbury and Richards Kept Ball Skimming. Over Net in Lirely Fashion. Probably tho beet tennis that has been seen In the intermountaln tourney to date was that exhibited In the Salisbury-Richards match at the Miller courts yesterday afternoon. 1 While Jimmy was never In real distress or pressed to tho point where defeat threatened. It remains, re-mains, however, that the State champion earned all that ho got. The scores of 6-2, 6-4, while perhaps Indicating tho rel-ativo rel-ativo merlto of the men, give only a faint suggestion of the high standard of tennis played. From the outset play was fast. Sloshing drives and rapid-fire return Bhots that Eklmmed tho not characterised the entire contest. Salisbury covered more ground, however, allowed fewer pass shots, and was more steady In his play. Dr. Richards used a cutting serve with good effect. Both men showed skill In placing the ball along the sidelines or In the corners. There were oeveral phenomenal phe-nomenal playp Salisbury had tho laugh on the spectators once. After a lively rally, Richards placed the ball so that a roturn shot seemed lmpo3slble, nnd the spectators began to applaud. Extending Ex-tending himself to the limit. Salisbury got within striking distance and sent the ball skimming back over the not, out of Dr. Rlchards's reach. The spectators applauded with Increased vigor. The piny was probably the most sensational that hns been made during the. tournament. tourna-ment. Severol close matches were played In the doubles. After the favorites, Sund-strom Sund-strom nnd Dinwoodey, had taken the first set. Hills and Taylor put up an Iron front and took the next two 6ots. Dr. Richards and Dr. Plummor did exactly the same thing In their match with Whitney nnd Conrad. After losing the first set by a scoro ot 2-6, they steadied and won the next two by scores of fi-2, iJ-3. Badger nnd Brown had no difficulty In defeatlug Peabody and .Nettleton. The lntter players could not get tho ball over, their opponents' heads at the net, nor I could they keep It wlihln bounds on the sidelines. . . The results of yesterday's matches follow: fol-low: O.
