Show 'FRISCO WILL AID. Those Who Suffered Liko Experience Prompt in Thoir Charity. SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 20. Members of tho Committee of Forty appointed by Mayor Schmltz to devise ways and moans for tho relief of San Francisco during the fire of last April mot today to arrange ar-range for San Francisco's contribution to tho stricken peoplo of Chilo. Within fifteen minutes the individual members of the committee had subscribed $2505. It was announced that tho Canadian Bank of Commerce had already telegraphed to the President of Chile the sum of $10,000, advanced at tho request of members of tho committee. This sum Is now to be raised by public subscription. A commlttco of seven, including James D. Phelan, W. J. Bartuctt and J. W. Holl-inan, Holl-inan, has undertaken to ralso this amount and additional plans for relief will be considered at a meeting to be held tomorrow. |
