Show ROOT IN BUENOS AYRES America's Representative Is Extended Another Cordial Welcome. BUENOS AYRES, Aug. 14. Despite a heavy downpour of rain, immense crowds assembled at the docks to witness tho arrival of Socrotary Root and his party, who were received this afternoon by the Minister of Marine and Foreign Affairs, accompanied by Mr. Boaupre, tho American Amer-ican Minister, and his secretary. The visitors were heartily cheered along tho line of the route to tho palatial residence resi-dence in the Avenue Alvear placed at their disposal by Dr. Llobot, which was crowded with spectators. The streets and almost every houso were decorated with American flags. At 3 o'clock Mr. Root was conducted to Government House, escorted by tho Eighth regiment of cavalry, for an official reception by President Alcorta. who formally returned the Secretary's visit at 5 o'clock. In his conversation with President Alcorta, Mr. Root expressed his pleasure at the warmth of the reception recep-tion tendered him and his admiration for the city, which, in many respects, he said, was similar to the upper part of Now York City. Tonight at 8:30 o'clock Mr. Root and his party arrived at Government House for an official banquet given by the President Presi-dent and to which the diplomatic corpB and high officers of state only wcro Invited. In-vited. Tho scene was most brilliant, tho staircase and banqueting hall presenting pre-senting a picture of great splendor. Tho streets and public squares of the city were a mass of electric illuminations. |
