Show BUSINESS AND TRADE. The New Year opened splendidly for Salt Lake. The holiday trade was fat beyond expectations, and the year'a business is shown to hav been excellent, excel-lent, anil much in advance of lat year In all lines. The other day we pictured a large wholesale house whose trade Increased In-creased -ir, per cent in 1905 over 1004; another staunch firm reports a gain of BO per cent in the same time. Gains like this may almost be said to have been general In the past year, throughout through-out this city, among Hie leading business busi-ness houses The Merchants and Manufacturers' association has now a membership of upward ..f two hundred. It is making strong appeals lo the consumers uf this city and to the neighborhood surrounding sur-rounding for the advancement of home Industries and the spread of manufactories manufac-tories In this valley. To this end the consumers are appealed tu to buy home-made goods In preference to those brought in from outside The movement Is taking excellent form, and the manufacturers are determined to Supply articles to the satisfaction of i hos. who use the ui, and at current rates. The realty situation Is one of gr.at encouragement Good deals are reported report-ed constantly, like the deal the past week where Mrs Don Porter bought the southeast corner of Second West and 8econd South for 13.WH. Other deals, some of larger importance some of smaller, are reported constantly, and the real estate men are confident that the opening spring will see a movement move-ment unparalleled since the boom days of fifteen years ago. One of the important changes during the week has been a change in the Sll-vi Sll-vi r Brus ' Iron establishment. w hich goes Into the hands of Joseph A. and Janus W. Silver, thev having purchased pur-chased the Interests of the other two brothers for a sum In th- neighborhood of $100,000. The new firm will build new works at a considerable expense on Fourth West and Sixth South which will effei t the removal of the factory from the present location where It .aused a great deal "t annoyance I" the neighbors and against which they have protested from time to time. The change is an excellent one. all around, ami no doubt the concern will be very much enlarged anel Improved. Salt Lake City is more and more becoming be-coming the central point for headquarters headquar-ters for various companies throughout the intei mountain reglem. The past week has seen the move here of an important im-portant Irrigation company from Idaho, and the Twin Falls and other companies compa-nies already have headquarters in this city. Salt Like, by virtue of Us central cen-tral location, Its ease of access, anel the (onvenlence to capitalists from aborad In finding headquarters here of different differ-ent impanles, is becoming the large assembling point fur all the vast Interests, Inter-ests, mining, cattle. Irrigation and others, oth-ers, for the whole mountain country. This Is a feature which will In the end prove Immensely profitable and val-ua val-ua ble. The railroad situation has not materially ma-terially changed during the past week. It could hardly change for the better, because the outlook is as bright as could be. The Los Angeles line with its new service ia attracting an Immense travel. It is taking its full share of passenger travel and more than its Share Of the fruit shipments from Southern California; it is in aii probability proba-bility the must important link of railroad rail-road built for many years In the western west-ern country. The Western Pacific is pushing Its work with energy and dispatch, and will wltboul doubt have its trains running run-ning Into this city from San Franeiseo in about t w ,, yea rs The sfoffat road from Denver promises prom-ises substantially the same from the Last, ,.. that Salt Lake lity will be the Junction point of these two new-roads new-roads which will be a very Important factor in providing for this city the drawing power for railroads thai its topographical situation requires it to be The Oregon Short Line and the Rio Grand Western are both fully up to the time, and the former win during the present season put in very considerable consid-erable additions to its trackage In ' Idah...
