Show NEW FRENCH AUTO COURSE. Grand Prix Race Will Take Place Thoro Soon. , Tribuno Special Fportlnp Service. PARIS, Feb. 17. A course has now been selected for the new road race which the French Industry has promoted pro-moted to supersede the Gordon-Bennett cup contest. Situated about one hundred hun-dred miles to the southwest of Paris a triangular "circuit" of sixty-five miles has been mapped out, which Is said to be by far the fastest circuit that has yet been used, there being one stretch of twenty-one miles almost dead straight, while there are no very severe gradients to be tackled. This will permit per-mit of top-gear driving all the way, and It Is very probable that existing records for long distances will be beaten. The regulations governing this new race, which will be known as the Grand Prix, permit the promoting country' to enter a larger number of cars than any other country- That France fears for her position at the head of the motor Industry is thus once more Indicated. Certainly no more severe blow could be Inflicted on the French than for this first Grand Prix race to be won by another an-other country. The race will be contested con-tested on two consecutive days, making a total distance of 745 miles. The date has yet to be fixed, but will probably be toward the latter part of June. |
