Show American SundaySchool Union in Utah Among tho many agencies at work for the moral and religious betterment of the childreu and youth of the nation, the work of tho American Sunday-school Sunday-school union easily stands first. Ithas for its motto: "Wo are trying to savo the children." Its method is to establish es-tablish a Sunday-school in every needy neighborhood and supply it with wholesome whole-some literature. It aims to take tlio child and youth at the most plastic and impressionable period of life and laj' tho formation ior the best type of Christian citizenship. During the past thirty years this society has established estab-lished about 30,000 Sunday-schools and trninod nearly 2,000,000 children and youth in that portion of the South that so recentl' has taken such advanced ground on the temperance question. The leaven of moral instruction in the Sunday-school has done its work. Being undenominational, and working work-ing in harmony with all denominations, it unites all people in the stud- of tho Bible. During the year ending Febru' arv 2S, 1907, the American Sunday-school Sunday-school union organized 1S7S schools in places destitute of religious instruction; instruc-tion; 724 schools were reorganized, so 2602 schools were set in operation, containing con-taining 102.034 members. As the outcome out-come of union sohools, 76 churches of different denominations were organ- izeu; anu uicry were ju,.o'1 conversions. conver-sions. Since the society began its fwork, 83 years ago, its missionaries l.avo organized an average of nearly four schools a day for each day of thoso years. At tho present time there arc 10,000,000 children in tho United Slates not enrolled in any Sunday-school. Sunday-school. In Utah the work has steadily progressed pro-gressed since its inception, about twelve 3'cars ago. During tho past three years two missionaries have devoted all their time to tho work in this State. Fivo of tho Sundaj'-schools have bo-como bo-como affiliated with throo differont denominations. Four permanout homes, or chapels, havo been secured; and one is under construction. At the present timo thero aro nine Sunday-school and fivo homo departments in oporatlou. Bibles and Tosl anient? distributed tho pas;t year. 208; "Testaments and llyinns," 274; the gospol according to St. John, 125; books and Sunday-school literature, etc.-. These Sunday-schools Sunday-schools have met in touts, box cars, private houses, and in tho humble buildings nnd chapels secured for tho purpose. The work is supported by good mon and women in every State. An increased nuiubor in this city and Sin to .have contributed to the work I his year.
