Owlns; to the arrival of a big consignment consign-ment of Utah onions the firat of the aeason the price of this vegetable dropped to 5c a pound Tuesday. Heretofore Here-tofore the markets have been depending on the California product for supplies, and the price until yesterday morning was 10c a pound. There wrs also a drop of 10c a bushel in the price of tomatoes, but this did not have any perceptible offect on the retail price. It is thought, however, how-ever, that there will be another drop in price before tho end of the week, and this wHl Influence the rotall business. Tomatoes Toma-toes are now retailing' at six pounds for 25c, and notwithstanding the fact that large quantities arrive every morning, tho supply is usually well reduced before evening. On tho other hand, the prico of cabbage Is steadily advancing, and the merchants find it difficult to get enough to supply the demand. Cabbage advanced yestor-d:iy yestor-d:iy from 2jc a pound retail to 4c a pound. A small consignment of medium grade Utah watermelons arrived on the market Tuesday antl sold at from 20c to 40c each. What wua perhaps the season's last lot of raspberries was marketed yesterday, I but as it was small and the goods were rathor Inferior tho merchant managed to dispose of them in tho forenoon, and the price could not be ascertained The market mar-ket Is now well supplied with fine peaches and plums, which are selling at 10c and 121c a pound. There has been no change in conditions in the fish and poultry market. |
