One of the most startling robberies in the history of the under world In this city happened hap-pened a day or two since, according to the World, In a brown stone mansion In West Eightieth street. The place has been used recently as a gambling-house. A well-known turfman had put in an evening of high play, during which he lost $500. He had left the house but a few minutes, when there came a rapping rap-ping at the street door. A "lookout" was sent down and three men wearing masks dashed through the door. They quickly made their way to the main gaming room, where ten players were seated at roulette tables. Two revolvers were leveled at tho proprietor, while the third robber annexed an-nexed $S200 in bills gathered from the cash drawers. The men immediately fled and were Joined at the street door by a fourth, Avho had held the "look-cut" "look-cut" under guard while his pals were within. The owners of the establishment establish-ment are now quietly searching for the "lookout," who they declare planned the robbery. |
