Show THE GOOD ROADS AGITATION. The presence here of President W H. Moore of the National Good Roads Association, As-sociation, and Ills part, sercs to awaken lively interest in Governor I 'tiller's 'til-ler's call for a State Good Roads Convention. Con-vention. President Bfoore Is active In the work of pushing the Good Roads propaganda and his efforts h'-rc in that behalf cannot fall to be appreciated. The State Good Roads Convention meets In this city on Friday of this week, nnd will be In session for two (r It will no doubt give an expression expres-sion upon the question of a National Good Roads Law, which as heretofore proposed contemplates National aid, in the proportions of half to the local sup-plj sup-plj of half. In the cost of making SUi h good roads i if course this programme contemplates a National standard of work, and National oversight, to see that this Standard Is maintained in the Tork done. It Is very desirable- that the convention conven-tion of the last two days of the week shall be well attended, by those who have to do with the actual maintenance of the public roads. Such a convention BS Weber county had on Monday, composed com-posed of representatives from every road district, would be an Ideal one for the State. The Commissioners of each county are Invited to name three delegates dele-gates to this convention, and the May-orof May-orof each city three from his city to attend this State convention. We have no doubt, further, that road supervisors would also be welcome guests, ex-offl-clo, at this convention. And all whq have an Interest In good roads are also urged to be present. The time is short for preparation for this convention; but Its call is urgent. The presence of the officers of the National Na-tional association is an Inducement of rare interest, and should act as an Incentive In-centive for speedy and effective action in getting out a full and strong representation repre-sentation , These National officials are on their way in their International Good Roads special, to hold their National Good Roads Convention In Portland, Julie 22nd to 24th, Inclusive, In conjunction with the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition On their way, they wtop off at various places to arouse Interest In Good Roads work. They held a meeting In Ogden on Monday, In Logan yesterday, and will have one In Provo today; and they will attend the Slate Good Roads convention in this city on Friday and Saturday They will urge a. full representation for Utah at the National convention, to wlu.h the OoVernor is authorized to appoint 11 ft y dcl-ga lee, Mayo.s of cities, three delegates, County Commissioners, Commis-sioners, three delegates. And no doubt as many delegates as the Slate Good Roads Convention chooses to appoint will be admitted to seats. It Is a rare opportunity to arouse practical Interest in the Good Roads movement, ami It should be taken advantage ad-vantage of to tho fullest extent. |
