Show Service Program a Given Bv Cancer Society The following is a brief resume of the service program of the Utah division American Cancer Society It is written for or general information and direction direction direction di di- only and with the knowledge that most service problems are unique and require require require re re- re- re quire special consideration and understanding I CANCER SYMPTOM 1 i CENTERS At the present time Cancer Symptom Centers are held regularly regularly regularly reg reg- on the this d Wednesday of each month at the office of the American Cancer Society Social Hall Avenue 1 General physical examinations examinations nations are not given As the name indicates only those persons who feel they have a definite symptom of cancer are eligible for examination which is directed at the area of the body where such symptoms are thought to exist 2 Patients who apply for examination must present a I written permit from their family family family fam fam- ily doctor if they have been under his care for any reason within the previous year Patients Pa Pa- dents who have no family doctor doctor doc- doc tor Lor nor have been to one within with with- in the year need not present presenta a permit 3 Patients are examined by representatives of the Utah State Medical Society who volunteer their time Th They y do donot donot donot not have any special machines gadgets or diagnostic procedures ures which are not available in offices of all physicians 4 Patients are re referred back to their own family doctor or ora I Ia a doctor of their choice when further diagnostic procedures or and/or treatment is indicated The Cancer Society cannot refer refer refer re re- fer any patient to any doctor for any my reason FINANCIAL AID ADD While the basic concern of the American Cancer Society is to control contro the disease thru education the Utah Division recognizes it also has a are re responsibility responsibility re- re to those who need financial aid in reaching a diagnosis where symptoms indicate indicate indicate in in- the possibility of cancer or in assisting with treatment for those who actually have havethe havethe havethe the disease It has therefore set up limited funds for these purposes DRESSINGS Dressings are available free upon request for home and h hospital spital cancer patients Such dressings are made by volunteer volunteer volunteer volun volun- teer groups according to specifications specifications specifications and utilize old linen contributed contributed to the society Special dressings are made up according to individual need where necessary LOAN CLOSET A service which has been proven invaluable in many in instances instances instances in in- stances is the maintenance of ofa a loan closet where supplies such as bed linen back tack rests bed jackets bed tables basins and other sick-room sick equipment may be used for cancer parents pa- pa rents on a loan basis These services of the Utah Division of the American Cancer Cancer Can Can- Society are all carried out by a group of volunteers under under un un- der the supervision of the medical medical medical med med- ical members of our board We Wedo Wedo Wedo do not and CANNOT function without the cooperation anc and direction of these medical members of all phases of our program education service and public publicity ty HELEN DIUMENTI Service chairman |
