H today, followed in a few seconds by a H heavier one. No damage was reported. Hf The shocks are said to be heavier than H those experienced March 21, 1904. They H were reported very severe at. Augusta, H Bangor, Lewlston, Rockland and H Brunswick. Jtcports from Thomaston say that one shock was Celt there short- HT ly? after 5 o'clock of .about 15 seconds' Hr ' duration. The State prison and houses at Thomaston were shnken noticeably HI and dishes and stove covers rattled. H Sound Xike Thunder. H Biddeford, Saco and Old Orchard also HUa noticed the shock at 6:05 this morning. H. Tho earth trembled and there was a H sound like distant thunder. There is no instrument at Bowdoln for registering the velocity and strength op tho concussion. Prof. Leo said It was one of those shocks which nro caused by the slipping of rock on the side of a Assure nt some considerable depth, probably two or three miles, as a result of long-continued strain. It could have been stimulated by an explosion of some kind. Prof. Lee could not locate, from reports received, the center of the shock. |
