Show PUPILS WELL RECEIVED. Musical Recital Proves a Highly Enjoyable En-joyable Event. Mrs. Graham F. Putnam and aovcral of her pupils gavo a recital at tho First Congregational church last evening which was enjoyed by one of tho largest audiences audi-ences over gathered for a similar evont In tho church. It was a social as woll as a musical ovent and tho young musicians, sovoral of whom mado their first publlo appearanco last night, must have been gratified at tho reception given them. The pretty custom of having girl frlonds of the players for ushers was followed last evening, the audlonco on tho flrst floor being seated by Miss Evelyn Thomas. Miss Ethel Martin. Miss May Brunton; In tho balcony by the Misses Theresa and Edith Godbe and Miss Elsa Parsons, whllo the programmes wero distributed by tho littlo Mioses Irono Eddie, Martha Henderson and Emma Cullcn. Hugh M. Dougall assisted Mrs. Putnam and hor pupils and scored anothor succoss In his rendition of "To My First Lovo," "Tho Little Irish Girl." n seloctlon from tho opera of ' Herodlode." and a beautiful beauti-ful ballad, as an encoro to the last number. num-ber. Mr. Dougall was suffering with hoarseness, but desplto this gavo every number in a most pleasing style. Of tho piano numbers tho most difficult woro "The Island of Fay" (Gllbort). by Miss Loulso Lamson; tho Andanto flnalo from "Lucia dl Lammermoor" (left-hand arrangement by Leschotlzsky), by Miss Alvorda Martin. "The Prophet Bird" (Schumann) and "Lloberstraum" (Liszt), by Miss Loulso Lamson; tho "Egloguo Iso. 3" (Raff) and "Allegro Energfo" (Binding), by Miss Julia Cullcn, and each of theso young ladles received enthusiastic enthusias-tic applauso at the close of their numbers. num-bers. Tho overture from tho opera "Seml-ramls" "Seml-ramls" (Rossini) for two pianos, played by Miss Lamson, Miss Cullcn, Miss AI-vcrda AI-vcrda Martin and Miss Alice Martin, was anothor number which was heartily received. re-ceived. Miss AHco Martin's Interpretation Interpreta-tion of the "Vonezla" (Liszt) was ono of tho best things on tho programmo, and tho selections by tho very youthful players, play-ers, Dorothy Ingram, Margarot Eddie, Jqhn Putnam, Florence Wnre and Hazel Gray called forth tho warmest applause of tho ovenlng. |
