Show A GOO EXAMPLc TO FOLLOW. Alpine Is a settlement which has a mind of Its own, and Is not afraid to act upon the conclusions of that mind. Some time ago. the school trustees of that place made objection to the U3e of the schoolhouso there for dances, and as resistance was made to the order of the school trustees forbidding danres therein a case was taken to the Supreme Su-preme Court of the State, and the trustees trus-tees were DuStainsdv And now the school trustees of Alpine have taken a much more pro-nounced pro-nounced step to protect tho schoolhouso school-houso from Improper and unlawful Intrusion. In-trusion. They have served notice on the authorities of the hierarchy there that tin schoolhouse must not for the future he used for tho mnch-ctlscussed 'religion 'reli-gion class" purposes. That thin Is lM,th the right and the duty of th trustees must be conceded by every one who has given the least attention to this Question, The requirements require-ments of the law are perfectly plain, and they run through all the legislation legisla-tion on the subject the enabling act, the conotltullon, the statutes. It would be moat Interesting If Ihe hierarchy should prove stubborn In this case, as it Is on most points, and bring suit to compel the trustees to y ield the use of the SOhOOlhOUSS for the "religion clues." We Imagine that it would not take long to find out from the courts where we arc all at In this matter. A suit In some form should certainly be brought, and this ls as good a case to test the question on as could be desired. |
