Sarah Tharp died at tho resldenco of her daughter, Mrs. J. A. Smith, 2C2 Twenty-Fourth strcot, tonight, of general dobllity. Mrs. Tharp, familiarly familiar-ly known ns "Grandma" Tharp, was probably one of the oldest women In the Slate. She was born In tho llttlo village n.?sllo,d LKtm county, O., May 12. t ?rF wns ,lvo weeks old when tho united States declared war against Groat Britain nnd was six months old when Gen. Harrison defeated Tecumseh at Tippecanoe Tip-pecanoe on tho Wabash. She was two years old when James Madison was Inaugurated In-augurated President of tho United States for tho second tlme: and has lived under the administration of twenty-four Presidents. Presi-dents. Up until the time of her illness she retained vivid recollections of ovents which happened In every administration from tho time of James Monroo to tho present tlmo. At the ago of eighteen sho was married to Abner Tharp and resided In West Liberty, Lib-erty, O. From thore sho removed to Missouri Mis-souri and Iowa, coming to Utah a few years' ago. She leaves a largo number of relatives scattered throughout the United Stntce, one of whom Is tho wlfo of Prof James A. Smith of this city, with whom she mado her homo during her declining years. The funeral will bo held from the residence resi-dence of Prof. Smith Friday, March 10 at 10:30 a. m. |
