Wallace, landlady of the Hazel rooming-house at 244 South State street, arrested for receiving stolen property, vhlle Alice Lloyd was also arrested on the chare of burglary. The two girls had been staying at the Fields' for several months, and finally their rout bill assumed too large proportions. pro-portions. They moved, leaving their trunk with Mrs. Miller, the landlady, as security for the amount they owed They then wont down to the Hazel, and late on Saturday night sent Peterson, the hackdriver. up to the room to get their trunk. Some of the guests at the Fields' saw the trunk being moved and Informed Mrs. Miller, who promptly prompt-ly laid Information at the City hall. Alice L'oyd was found early yeHterday morning at the Hazel by Policeman Seager. On hearing the whole story. Captain Burbldge and Sergeant Hempel went down to tho roomlne-housc to get the trunk Mrs. Wallace at first denied all knowledge of the trunk, but when cornered, admlttdd that she had it, but that It was gone. Upon searching thy place, the officers found the trunk hidden hid-den In a closet, whereupon the landlady wus taken up to' headquarters. She put un ball and was released until Tuesday, when the case will be tried. Mrs. Wallace denies that Bhe knew tho true state of affairs und says she had no Intention of doing anything like receiving stolen property, and that she was only trying to help the girls out of some trouble they said they had got in to. Percy Peterson also says that Jje had no Idea of committing burglary, and that he knew nothing of the case beyond that the girls commissioned him to go up to the room and get the trunk.
