On July 4th two battalions of Russians Rus-sians attempted to break through the Japanese outposts at the northern entrance en-trance of Mo Tien pas3. Before daylight day-light they surrounded an outpost of eighty men at the foot of a hill and charged the trench above. A bloody encounter with bayonets lasting a quarter of an hour ensued. The Russians Rus-sians attacked the trench three times, but were driven up the valley by a Japanese reinforcement, leaving many dead and wounded. Survivors, of Hatsuse.
