Show DEMOCRAT RALLY IS BIGSUCCESS Democracy of Bingham Canyon Can-yon filled to capacity the Princess Prin-cess theatre Monday evening in a welcome of a portion of the party's candidates: for congress, J. Will Robinson; for governor, Herbert B. Maw, and five others seeking offices on the ticket in the November 5 election. Joseph P. Scussel, chairman of district 335 and Tenth precinct secretary, was in charge of arrangements, ar-rangements, while George A-Faust A-Faust of Salt Lake City, county Democratic chairman, acted as master of ceremonies. Efforts of the Democratic party to provide America adequate defense de-fense were described by Congressman Cong-ressman Robinson. "This country is trying out the question as to whether or not it is possible for a - democracy to survive in the world. We want to be thankful to our forefathers that they had the wisdom to draft a constitution which made it possible for the people to call on the president of the United States to continue to serve in an emergency," Mr. Robinson saidi in the course of his discussion of the third term question- Leaders of the Republican party par-ty in congress unanimously fought legislation aimed at strengthening national defense and now, inconsistently, the same men criticize the new deal leaders lead-ers as being to blame because defenses are not strong enough, he stated. Bert Hocking Jr. won applause for a vocal solo to his guitar accompaniment ac-companiment of his own composition, compo-sition, "We're All Depending on Franklin", and gave two encore numbers. The gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Maw, won enthusiastic applause ap-plause for his masterly presentation presenta-tion of his views on conscription. "As long as the Democratic riartv Is in nower. wealth will be conscripted along with manpower. man-power. In my humble opinion, if there had been a conscription of money in 1916 if wealth had helped to pay the bill of this nation's na-tion's entrance in the first World war, we would never have been involved in the war." Other candidates introduced who responded with brief remarks re-marks were Reese M. Reese, state auditor; Harold E- Wallace, county coun-ty attorney; A. H. Ellett, judge of third district court; Brigham E. Roberts, district attorney; Ros-coe Ros-coe Boden, county commissioner. Tab and Bun, clever vocalists, in reality Tabby Grant and Bun Shelby, former Bingham residents, resi-dents, and six 10 minute motion pictures on government activities and departments, released by state Democratic headquarters were other entertainment during the rally. |
