Show PERCY PROTHERO MAY DEMAND THAT REWARD Two months in jail and word from lib fathor that tho family is suffering poverty and slckneas have done much to weaken Percy Prothero'K determination to surrender sur-render the Shoekley reward to the families of tho murdered street car men, Glcaaon and Brighton. Soon after he gave the information which cauaod the arrest of James M. Shoekley for the murdor of the conductor and motoiman during an attempted robbery, rob-bery, Prothero signed an agreement malting malt-ing over all but S200 of the $2200 reward to the families of tho dead men. The Chief of Police and det2ctlves also renounced whatever claim they might have to the mnnev. To make aure that no Intimidation Intimida-tion had been uped. Sheriff Emery questioned ques-tioned Prothero, and was told that he had elgned the paper willingly and cheorfully. The matter was turned over to Attorney Robert E. Porter, who has held a consultation with Prothero on the subject. The latter was seen at the jail yesterday and whon asked about the reword said ho did not like newspaper men anyhow and would not talk about It. "Are you going to claim the money?" wan asked "That is my bUElness," he replied. ' "When you wore asked before you had no hesitation In saying that you Intended to give It up, so If you refuse to sav anything any-thing now It will look as though you had changed your mind." Prothero mnde no reply to this comment and seemed willing that the construction indicated Khould bo put upon his silence. Ho said later that he had not employed an attorney or taken steps to get tho money. Tie evidently has in mind a proposition propo-sition to make u new division of the cash and socure a larger share of the total for his own family. Ho can, however, make no claim to the 100 offered by the State, this amount must go to the person making the nrrest. |
